UNION ORGANIZING AND COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UPDATE
Presenter: Joseph P. McConnell, Partner, Morgan, Brown & Joy, LLP

Human Resources professionals in both unionized and non-unionized workplaces need to be aware that federal law related to collective bargaining applies to them. For the unionized workplace, employers must be aware of recent National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) decisions that expand union rights and employer responsibilities. For the non-unionized setting, an employer must be cognizant that increased organization activities are taking place throughout Vermont.

Topics to be presented will include:

-The rules of engagement when the union comes knocking on your door (including dos and donts for managers and supervisors);
-Tips on managements role in collective bargaining;
-Employees Loudermill & Weingarten rights for union and non-union environments;
-New postings required by the NLRB;
-Other expected changes from the NLRB that employers need to know.

About Our Presenter: Joseph P. McConnell is a partner in the law firm Morgan, Brown & Joy, LLP in Boston, Massachusetts. Joe has extensive labor and employment law experience, and represents clients before various federal and state courts, arbitrators, and administrative agencies. Joe represents clients both during union organizing campaigns and throughout the collective bargaining and grievance and arbitration processes. A significant part of Joes practice also involves providing day-to-day employment law counseling and advice to human resources professionals and in-house counsel. Joes clients are in numerous industries throughout New Englandincluding higher education, retail, financial services, insurance and traditional manufacturing settings.
